Title: Starcrossed
Author: Josephine Angelini
Date Published: May 31st, 2011 by HarperTeen
Goodreads Summary:
Set on the island of Nantucket, STARCROSSED tells the tale of Helen Hamilton, a young woman whose destiny is forever altered when she meets Lucas Delos and tries to kill him in front of her entire high school. Which is terribly inconvenient, not only because Lucas is the most beautiful boy on the island, but also because Helen is so achingly shy she suffers physical pain whenever she is given too much attention.
Making matters worse, Helen is beginning to suspect she’s going crazy. Whenever she’s near Lucas or any member of his family she sees the ghostly apparitions of three women weeping bloody tears, and suffers the burden of an intense and irrational hate. She soon learns that she and Lucas are destined to play the leading roles in a Greek tragedy that the Three Fates insist on repeating over and over again throughout history. Like her namesake, Helen of Troy, she’s destined to start a war by falling in love. But even though Lucas and Helen can see their own star-crossed destiny, they’re still powerfully attracted to each other. Will they give up their personal happiness for the greater good, or risk it all to be together?
DeLibrarie Review:
I've had this one on my shelf pretty much since the day that it was released. I was really excited to start reading it immediately. 2 reasons why I didn't: 1. It's almost 500 pages and it must just be a mental thing because it didn't take me longer than usual, but I'm a college student I don't have the extra couple hours to spend reading an extra 150 pages or so, and 2. I love Mythology and I'm always scared that the books won't live up to the actual myths. So now after reading it do I think either of those reasons were a good one? No. This book was a ok-i-will-start-this-OMG-it's-been-5-hours-already-it's-so-freaken-amazing-I-forgot-to-eat-bathe-and-sleep book. My friend Chris read this months ago and told me that it was wonderful and that I had to read it... naturally I waited like 9 months... (Sorry Chris, you were right... How many times have I ever said THOSE words ;) ) I loved Helen, she was strong, didn't let others make decisions for her, and cracked jokes when she was supposed to be serious. Pretty sure that all three Delos boys are swoon worthy... my personal favorite of course being Lucas. :) yummm. If Lucas isn't enough of a reason to read this book then I don't know what will convince you... he's a sexy DEMIGOD... nuff said. This book is definitely worth your time to read, and don't let the 500 some pages scare you, it reads super fast, and I was never bored.
I figured that since the next book in the Starcrossed series comes out in about a month and a half, I would gawk a little at the STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL cover and add the synopsis. Seriously... this might be the most beautiful cover I've ever seen. Dreamless will hit shelves May 29th... and trust me... I don't care how long this one is... I'll be reading this one the second I get my hands on its fabulous cover! Summary is from Goodreads! Enjoy!
As the only Scion that can enter Hades at will, Helen descends to the Underworld in search of a way to overcome the Furies and end the cycle of revenge that has cursed the Scions. But she’s running out of time. Each descent weakens her both in mind and spirit. A mysterious stranger might be her only salvation, but the price may be her love for Lucas Delos.
As an unforgettable love triangle emerges, Josephine Angelini’s compelling saga becomes ever more intricate and spellbinding. The eagerly awaited sequel to the internationally bestselling Starcrossed, Dreamless delivers with a huge emotional impact that will leave readers satisfied—and longing for more.
